Hawke’s Bay U20 Men Finish Second at BBNZ National Tournament

10 June 2025 | Tauranga, NZ – Hawke’s Bay’s U20 Men’s team delivered an inspiring performance at the 2025 Basketball New Zealand U20 National Tournament in Tauranga, finishing runners-up in a fiercely contested competition.

The team, led by a dedicated group of coaches and support staff, showcased skill, resilience, and team chemistry across four days of high-level basketball, ultimately falling just short in the national final against a strong [insert winning team] side.

After navigating a tough pool stage and securing a hard-fought semifinal victory, the Bay side earned their spot in the championship game — marking the region’s best finish at this level in recent years.

General Manager of Basketball Hawke’s Bay, Tim Baker praised the team’s efforts:
"This result is a testament to the hard work these young men and our coaching staff have put in. To reach the national final and represent our region with such pride is a huge achievement."

BBNZ officials commended the overall standard of the tournament and acknowledged the competitiveness of the final, which drew a large crowd and was live-streamed nationally.

Basketball Hawke’s Bay Wraps Up a Successful King’s Birthday Tournament

Basketball Hawke’s Bay has wrapped up a hugely successful King’s Birthday Weekend tournament, delivering both on and off the court across three days of competitive regional basketball.

A total of 28 teams from across the central North Island converged on the Rodney Green Foundation Arena, bringing with them waves of supporters and a strong sense of community spirit. Despite the long hours and logistical demands, BBHB staff and volunteers ensured a smooth and professionally run event from start to finish.

On the court, BBHB’s U16 and U18 Boys teams both secured qualification for Nationals, underlining the region’s strong development pipeline. Adding to the weekend’s success, the U20 Men’s team competed at the National Tournament in Tauranga, where they delivered an outstanding campaign to finish second overall — a huge achievement for the region.
