BOARD MEMBER VACANCIES

Basketball Hawkes Bay is the lead regional body for basketball in Hawkes Bay. It is responsible for Hawkes Bays competitions and development programmes to promote and foster basketball in Napier, Hastings, Wairoa and Central Hawkes Bay.

Basketball is experiencing significant growth especially amongst youth. Basketball appeals to both genders, all ages, ethnicities and cultures – it is a global sport with unrealised potential in New Zealand.

Applications are invited for:

• 3 elected Board members
• 4 appointed Board Members

Vacancies exist due to current board members completing terms. Four current board members will be standing for appointed positions.

Board members are volunteer positions, responsible for setting the strategic direction of basketball, budgets and finance and monitoring progress against strategic and annual plans. The Board meets monthly.

Preferred applicants will demonstrate:

(a)          their prior experience as a director, trustee, or experience in any other governance role;

(b)          their knowledge of, and experience in, the sport of basketball generally, at international, national, and/or local level;

(c)           their occupational skills, abilities, and experience;

(d)          their knowledge of, and experience in, community, sports and/or not for profit organisations generally;

(e)          the need for conflicts of interest on the Board to be minimised;

(f)           the need for a wide range of skills and experience on the Board including skills in commerce, finance, marketing, law or business generally;

(g)          the need for diversity on the Board; and

(h)          the need for the Board as a whole to have sufficient knowledge of or experience in the sport of basketball.

Elected positions

Elected Board Members will be elected at an AGM in accordance with Rule 13.18 (Election of Board Members)

Appointed positions

Appointed Board Members will be appointed in accordance with Rule 14.9 (Appointed Board Members)

The Board Appointment Panel will appoint candidates to the Appointed positions to be announced at the AGM, scheduled for Monday 8th April.
